(INDIANAPOLIS) - Shakamak senior outifielder/pitcher Brock Dowell was named the recipient of the 2012 L.V. Phillips Mental Attitude Award following the IHSAA Class A State Championship game at Victory Field on Saturday afternoon.
Shakamak was presented a $1,000 in Dowell's name from Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance.
The award came on the heels of a disappointing 12-2 loss to Lafayette Central Catholic in the finals.
Dowell is the third member of the Lakers to claim the prestigious award.
The first was current Shakamak first base coach Steven McNabb, who claimed the honor in 2007. He was followed by Joshua Horton in 2008.
