(SALEM) - A fire on Friday destroyed a Salem home and all its contents, said Salem Fire Chief Tom Day.
Stephanie Taylor Ferriell reports that the fire was reported at 4:40 p.m. and involved a modular home at 4645 Rinkers Creek Road. The homeowner, Kimberly Kinney, was not home at the time.
Day said when firefighters arrived, they discovered the back of the home had burned and there was smoke and fire throughout the structure. "It was a difficult fire," said Day, noting the home's ceiling structure and small attic space complicated firefighters' efforts. Day said all the ceilings were removed in an effort to extinguish the blaze.
"There was nothing salvageable except for a few pictures we got off the walls," he said.
Firefighters remained on the scene about four hours.
Day said an exact cause has not been determined, but it is believed to have been electrical in nature. There was nothing suspicious about the fire in the five-year-old home he said.
