(BLOOMFIELD) - After some discussion about repairing an alternate bridge, the Greene County Commissioners awarded a contract Monday morning for the replacement of Richland Creek Bridge No. 9 on County Road 2010E in eastern Greene County.
Nick Schneider of the Greene County Daily World reports that the bridge has been closed since earlier this year because of structural deficiencies. CLR, Inc., of Vincennes, was the lone bidder on the project at a cost of $173,380 for used, but certified reconditioned beams.
However District 1 Commissioner Kermit Holtsclaw says he would prefer to replace County Bridge 311 over Little Indian Creek, which has been closed since 2010.
However, design work and the bidding process has not yet been done - meaning it would be several more months before that particular bridge would be ready to bid.
Holtsclaw then conceded to give the approval for Bridge No. 9, provided it can be done before bad weather hits in the winter.
There is still one hitch in giving the go-ahead to do the bridge project. There isn't enough money in the district's budget fund and the project will need about $100,000 in an additional appropriation from the county council. Holtsclaw will make the request for the additional appropriation at the council's June 25 meeting.
The project is expected to be done in 90 days from the time the notice to proceed is issued.
