(JASONVILLE) - A Jasonville man has been jailed for a parole violation following a cooperative effort of the U.S. Marshal’s Service, the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
Nick Schneider of the Greene County Daily World reports that 27-year-old Daniel A. Wilson was arrested on a parole warrant Friday following a sweep of the county conducted on May 24.
The Greene County Sheriff's Department was requested to team up with the U.S. Marshal Services in what was called the Operation Spring Clean-Up.
The initial Operation Spring Clean-up included a collaboration of Crime Stoppers of Indiana and 15 central and southern Indiana counties.
The operation profiled sex offenders by following up on felony warrant and/or violations of sex offense registry laws and sex offender compliancy checks, according to Greene County Chief Deputy Michael L. Hasler.
Wilson was convicted in Greene County on Nov. 5, 2010 for sexual misconduct with a minor - a class B felony. He was sentenced to three years and five months with the Indiana Department of Correction. He was on parole assigned to the Terre Haute Parole District.
Wilson is being held in the Greene County Jail at Bloomfield without bond.
Hasler assigned local deputies to team up with the marshals to conduct the residency checks and directed Sex Offender Registrar Denise Andrew to compile sex offender registrant packets to enable the teams to set out for a day of compliancy checks on the registered offenders.
"The Greene County Sheriff's Department had no warrants for unregistered sex offenders but regularly conduct compliancy checks by physically going to the registrants address and checking their compliancy," Andrew commented.
Participating agencies also included Greene County Probation Department, Terre Haute Parole District 4 Office, Indiana Department of Correction, Indiana State Police, Marion County Sheriff's Department and the Greenwood Police Department.
"The teams received packets on all 50 sex offender registrants in Greene County. The teams were able to perform residency checks on over 40 of the 50 registrants. The remainder of registrants were either at work or away from their residences," Andrew said. "Although the registrants have been checked within the last three months, a follow-up on residency checks will be done by the Greene County Sheriff's Office which may result in new charges for some registrants."
Andrew said this the first time Greene County has participated in this operation. Monroe and Lawrence counties also participated.
