(MEDORA) - At least one of three Medora town council members is opposed to the idea of increasing this community’s sewer rates.
Aubrey Woods of the Tribune reports that the rate increase proposal was made by Council President Robert Thompson.
Councilman Jim Davers is against the increase.
Thompson said the town needed to increase the sewer rates for customers by $4 a month to keep up with expenses.
Davers said he has received complaints about that possibility from some town residents, especially those on fixed incomes. Davers said the town has the highest sewer rates in southern Indiana.
Councilwoman Sharon Bowers has also had received complaints about the possible rate increase and asked if there might be another way to raise funds.
Thompson said the council must do something to ensure the sewer utility has money to operate, and the increase was the only way to get the funds. Thompson said he had not heard any com-plaints from town residents about the idea. He suggested the council schedule an executive session at 5:30 p.m. July 9 before the council's regular meeting to deal with the issue. Executive meeting are closed to the public.
