(BEDFORD) - Otis Park Golf Course’s revenue continues to exceed last year’s totals.
Bob Bridge of the Times-Mail reports that revenue is up approximately $50,000 and expenses are down, but that could change with the drought and high water bills. This is according to Parks Director Mike Mitchell.
Mike Mahoney, course manager at Otis, says play at the golf course has been brisk and the course is up to 11,760 rounds that's 2,846 ahead of this time last year.
Mahoney said play has been so busy on the weekends that he's using a starter and ranger to keep traffic flowing more smoothly.
The lack of rain has relieved crews of heavy mowing duties, so Mitchell said they've redirected their efforts to removing dead trees and accomplishing other tasks.
He thanked the Bedford Recreation Foundation for its assistance in repaving cart paths at the course and noted BRF is in the process of sprucing up the landscaping in front of the pro shop.
The city's four-year lease of mowing equipment is nearing an end and Mitchell said he's been discussing future options with Brice Gordon, course superintendent.
Revenue at John Lowery Pool is down a little from last year, but rental of shelter houses has been steady.
Mitchell said no smoking signs will be posted on all park facilities to come into compliance with the state's new statute.
The board approved a request by Bob Hughes of the Disabled Veterans Wish Foundation to use Murray Forest Park for a haunted hayride in October. Mitchell said he and Hughes would confer to determine which weekend would fit best.
