(BEDFORD) - The 2012 Relay for Life, which was Friday and Saturday at Parkview track, raised $51,915, with more being turned in.
Carol Johnson of the Times-Mail reports that months of fundraising by 26 teams had raised about $40,000 prior to the start of the event.
Tammy Smith, Relay organizer, said more than $6,000 was raised during the 16 hours of Relay.
Karen Weaver, a cancer survivor and member of Uteruses United, said her team raised $1,350. The team took on the job of running the concession stand, raising over $500.
Other highlights of Relay for Life:
Fundraising for Relay for Life continues through August. Volunteers are planning a final fundraiser, Bark for Life, a dog walk against cancer, in August.
