(SALEM) - Lester Sowder, who sits on the Washington County park board, is at University Hospital in Louisville where he is recovering from a logging accident.
Tim Rainbolt, president of the board, said Sowder was getting ready to unload logs at a sawmill on State Road 56 on Thursday. He had unfastened a chain that secured the load when a log rolled off and down Sowder's back, onto his right leg, breaking the leg at the ankle.
Rainbolt said Sowder has had surgery on his leg and may have to have another to fix the ankle. In addition, Rainbolt said the impact also bruised Sowder's pancreas.
He was flown from the scene.
Rainbolt said it isn't known how long Sowder will be hospitalized.
