(BLOOMFIELD) - A problem with a taillight plug led to a traffic stop which resulted in the arrest of an eastern Greene County man on drug possession charges.
Nick Schneider of the Greene County Daily World reports that Wayne D. Roberts, 51, of Route 2 Solsberry, was observed on May 5 by Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Jeremy Inman driving a red GMC pickup north on State Road 54 near the Center Township Fire Department station with no taillights.
Inman was able to conduct a traffic stop on State Road 445 near Milestone Construction Company.
Roberts told Inman that he was having problems with the plug to the taillights.
When Roberts was unable to produce a registration for the truck and after he told Inman that the license plates belonged to another one of his trucks, the deputy sought permission to search the vehicle.
Roberts readily told Inman that he would find some pills that were on the floorboard between the seats.
Inman found a black bag on the floor that contained one white oval pill identified as Lortab (hydrocodone-bitartrate) - a Schedule III controlled substance; and four Oxycodone tablets - a Schedule II controlled substance.
Roberts was released and told that a warrant might be issued after the case was reviewed by the prosecutor's office.
An arrest warrant was served on Monday.
Roberts faces preliminary charges of two counts of possession of a Schedule I, II, III or IV controlled substance - both class D felonies.
An initial hearing has not been scheduled. Roberts is being held without bond in the county jail.
