(DUBOIS COUNTY) - Two Dubois County men suffered only minor injuries when the car they were in crashed about a half-mile northwest of Dubois following a high-speed chase with county deputies last night.
The pursuit began at about 8:30 pm on north Indiana 545 just east of North Celestine Road North not quite two miles outside Dubois.
Deputies noticed a small red car traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to pull the car over. However, the driver did not stop and headed toward Dubois.
Deputies say the vehicle was clocked at more than 90 miles an hour in a 45-mile an hour zone.
The vehicle stopped at the stop sign at Main Street in Dubois, then continued north on 545 before turning west on Dubois Road Northwest where it crashed about a half-mile from the intersection coming to rest on its top.
Both men were not seriously hurt. The driver, 22-year old Gavin Matheis of Celestine, and the passenger, 18-year old James Himsel of rural Jasper were taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises.
Matheis was later transported to the Dubois County Security Center in Jasper. He's charged with OWI, reckless driving, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and other traffic violations including not wearing a seatbelt.
