(AUSTIN) - A 76-year-old Jackson County woman died in a two-vehicle wreck Wednesday near Austin that also left an 81-year-old Scott County woman dead.
According to a report from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg, Eleanor D. Morgan of Seymour was pronounced dead by the Scott County Coroner's Office at the scene of the wreck on Indiana 256. Joyce Turner of Austin also was pronounced dead at the scene, Sgt. Jerry Goodin said.
The wreck, reported around 3:25 p. m., occurred about a quarter of a mile east of Coffee Pot Road, which is just east of Austin.
Goodin said a preliminary investigation shows Morgan was driving a gray 2007 Ford Five Hundred west on Indiana 256 when the car crossed the centerline and struck a red 2007 Chevrolet Colorado driven east by Turner head-on.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Police said they do not know why Morgan's vehicle crossed the centerline.
An Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the scene and continues to investigate the cause of the crash, Goodin said.
Jennings Township Volunteer Fire Department and Scott County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene of the wreck.
