Bedford Will Set Off 4th Of July Fireworks

(BEDFORD) - The city of Bedford will have their fireworks on the 4th of July.

Bedford officials met Monday morning to discuss the issue because officials were worried about the drought conditions.

The Bedford Fire Department will place foam on the Parkview Field Tuesday and the department has a safety plan in place.

BFD Chief Jon Wagner says there are hydrants in the area and hoses will be laid out, there will be two 4-wheelers with 30 gallon water tanks to get to areas where a fire engine can not. The department's rescue truck, with foam in the tank and Engine 1, loaded with 15,000 gallons of water will be on scene.

"Extra personnel will also be on hand," Wagner says. "We also have removed the fencing around the area and at the baseball field so our equipment will not be hindered getting to the location."

If wind becomes an issue Wagner will stop the display because of concerns of fires starting near the railroad tracks.

"I think everything will go just find," Wagner says. "Especially since we had rain. We are planning on everyone having fun and a good 4th of July."

Bedford Revitalization Inc. announces the following list of events for the Limestone Heritage Festival:

Tuesday, July 3

4-7:30 p.m. - Bedford Rotary Club's annual Dr. Dan Schafer Memorial Fish Fry and silent auction at Thornton Park Pavilion. All-you-can-eat fish and chicken, potato salad, cole slaw and baked beans. Cost is $10 (adults); $6 (children 5-12); free for children under age 5. Proceeds will benefit the club's projects, including sponsoring/hosting foreign exchange students, "I Like Me" books and first-third grade reading programs, safe drinking water and world-wide polio eradication.

Wednesday, July 4

7:30 a.m. - Veterans breakfast at Golden Corral with speaker Jonathan George Brigadier General USAF (Retired)

10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. - Lemonade Day hosted by the Lawrence County 4-H junior leaders in front of the Purdue-Lawrence County Extension Office at 924 16th St. This initial local effort is part of an ongoing national program to teach youth how to start and operate a small business, such as a lemonade stand.

Noon - "Let Freedom Ring" LHF Parade, beginning at 16th and M streets
1:30-4:30 p.m. - LHF old fashioned ice cream social, Thornton Park Pavilion
5:30-6:30 p.m. - Lawrence County Community Band Concert, Thornton Park Pavilion
6:30-7:30 p.m. - LHF concert featuring Ally T., Parkview Field
8-10 p.m. - LHF concert featuring Corey Cox, Parkview Field
10-10:15 p.m. - Pre-fireworks Patriotic Salute, Parkview Field
10:15 p.m. - LHF fireworks show, Parkview Field.
