(BLOOMINGTON) - 30-year-old Andrew Phillip and his 26-year-old wife Chastin were arrested after federal postal investigators determined the couple was shipping illegal bath salts from Texas to their home in Bloomington.
Police determined the couple had received 13 packages.
The couple was charged with felony charges of possession of a synthetic substance.
Bloomington police Sgt. John Kovach say a postal inspector told police that the couple had been receiving several packages from a person in Texas identified as someone who sells bath salts. The postal inspector obtained a federal search warrant to test the packages for illegal substances, and they were positive for bath salts.
Police set up a controlled delivery for one of the packages.
On Monday Chastin Davis picked up paid cash to pick up one of the parcels and was arrested. Police say the bath salts were individually packaged in foil packs labeled "Angel Stain Removal." Chastin told police it was a cleaning product she added to her laundry. She then admitted to ingesting the substance to get high.
Andrew Davis was questioned by police and he eventually admitted to taking the drug.
In all, investigators found 11 packages, containing 11 grams of bath salts, that had been shipped to Chastin Davis. Another two packages, with two grams of bath salts had been sent to Andrew Davis. Each parcel contained two foil packets containing the bath salts.
Indiana law now bans synthetic stimulants like bath salts and synthetic cannabinoids that mimic marijuana, like K2 or Spice.
