(UNDATED) - Due to high temperatures and record electricity demand in Indiana, Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC and other electric utilities throughout the state are urging customers to reduce their electricity use.
All customers are asked to avoid using major electric appliances such as dishwashers and clothes dryers from now until 9 p.m. each night.
By reducing the amount of energy used, it will ease the strain on the region's power supply.
Without voluntary reductions in electric use the Midwest could face temporary power losses or localized blackouts.
