(BEDFORD) - David Jacobs, 90, of Bedford completed his first 5K when he walked the Limestone 5K July 14. His goal was to finish in less than one hour. He made it in 58 minutes.
Jacobs said developed an infection in his spine last year and the resulting weakness and slumped posture motivated him to join a gym and start working out three times a week.
"I was bent over quite a bit," he said. "I'm trying to get my posture and endurance back."
Jacobs walked the race with Steve Floyd of Ellettsville. Floyd is a veteran runner and walker, who usually runs the Limestone 5K, but decided to walk it with Jacobs. Jacobs said he plans to walk in the Mitchell Persimmon 5K in September.
"If you don't keep things moving, you're going to stop," he said.
