(DAVIESS COUNTY) - At a press conference held in front of Graber Post on the Odon-Cannelburg Road, representatives from INDOT, Daviess County Government, area businesses, and the Amish community heard that Daviess County will receive $2.5 million to complete a project that will put buggy lanes on the Odon-Cannelburg Road.
The county road has become a major economic pipeline with Amish buggies, semi's, cars, and all types of motorized transportation sharing the road, with sometimes disastrous results.
Daviess County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius says "Due to the high number of accidents reported along the corridor, it made it and easy decision to continue asking for funding".
Both County Commissioner Tony Wichman and County Councilman Mike Sprinkle said that the safety of all the County's residents was important in completeing the project.
Cornelius pointed out that the Odon-Cannelburg Road has "huge safety issues". 120 businesses use the road transporting raw materieals and finished products. The semi's and vehicles carrying carpenter crews, tourists busses, and automobiles intermingle with horse-drawn buggis.
INDOT Deputy Commissioner, Sam Sarvis said "we worked to fund this project to save lives and reduce accidents.
