(NEEDMORE) - Firefighters from 3 volunteer fire departments battled a house fire early this morning.
Firefighters from Marshall, Oolitic and Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Departments went to the home of Ashley Kirkman, in the 600 block of Valley Mission Road.
Marshall Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chad Hayes says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The state fire marshal has been called to assist with the investigation.
"No one was home when the fire was reported at midnight," Hayes says. "We were on the scene in about 11 minutes and the fire was fully involved."
A passerby noticed the fire and called the Lawrence County Police Department.
"We were able to knock down the blaze quickly," Hayes says. "The home was destroyed, but we were able to go in and save some of her personal property after we got the fire knocked down."
Firefighters were on the scene until 4:24 a.m. this morning.
"We wanted to make sure all the hot spots were out and the fire didn't rekindle," Hayes says.
