(HENDRICKSVILLE) - Five fire departments battled a house fire in eastern Greene County Wednesday afternoon.
According to Lt. Ryan Fipps of the Van Buren Township Fire Department, one firefighter from Van Buren Township and one from Eastern Greene were treated at IU Health Bloomington Hospital after they were overcome by the oppressing heat.
Troy Lavender owes the one-story home in the 7600 block of North Ind. 43 near Hendricksville. He was renting the home to Scott Morrow, his wife Mechel and their 71/2 month-old baby Sydney. The family had moved out while renovations were done to the flooring.
"We were staying with family members while they worked on the house," Mechel Morrow says. "We lost everything, but we have a great landlord and family is helping us out. I just thank God were were not there when the fire started."
A passerby noticed the fire and called 911. Firefighters from Van Buren, Eastern Greene, Ellettsville and Clay Township and Center Township responded.
Mike Roberts, of Solsberry told firefighters he had been helping do the renovations and had just gutted the flooring before going to Bloomington for supplies and lunch, when he came back the house was engulfed with flames.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
