Forage And Livestock Drought Management Meeting In Springville

(UNDATED) - There will be a Forage and Livestock Drought Management meeting held at two locations on Thursday, July 12th.

The first meeting will take place at Springville Feeder Auction Facility in Springville starting at 1 p.m. The second meeting will take place at the Producers Livestock Facility in Little York starting at 7 p.m.

Dr. Keith Johnson, Purdue Forage Specialist from the Agronomy Department will discuss the conditions of pasture and hay fields, what we can do to protect what we have left and what we can do to rejuvenate the fields once we start getting rainfall.

Dr. Ron Lemonager, Purdue Beef Specialist from the Animal Science Department will discuss how to extend your feed supply, management decisions that can be made to improve the livestock situations, how to determine your culling pattern and how to harvest and feed stressed corn that is turned into silage.

There will also be a representative from the Farm Service Agency at each location to discuss any USDA plans or programs that might be useful to livestock and forage producers.

There is no charge for this meeting and no pre-registration is needed just show up at one location or the other to receive the latest up to date information on handling the drought.
