(WASHINGTON) - Two Odon teenage girls were injured in a Friday evening accident on State Road 57 north of Washington.
According to the Daviess County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred a little after 8:30 p.m. Friday, when 17-year-old Jonathan Tarwater, of Jasonville swerved right as he was passing a southbound truck near County Road 225 North.
When he over-corrected his front seat passenger, 18-year-old Sierra Wainman, of Odon, grabbed the steering wheel and pulled it back to the right, causing the car to go out of control, spin off the roadway and roll over in a cornfield.
Wainwright was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered neck injuries.
A backseat passenger, 17-year-old Shane Burkhart, of Odon, suffered neck and back injuries.
Barnhart and Wainman were taken by ambulance to the Daviess Community Hospital Emergency Room and then transferred to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville.
Another backseat passenger, 19-year-old Jacob Michael Bowling, of Washington, was uninjured, but tested .169 percent blood alcohol content and was charged with illegal consumption.
Tarwater was cited for a learners permit violation.
Investigating officers say inexperience, speed, texting, and being distracted by passengers, may have been contributing factors to the accident.
