(BEDFORD) - The pPCB pollution is cleaned up downstream from its Bedford plant, but General Motors still has a list of issues to address over the coming years.
Ed Peterson, program manager, says the cleanup and restoration project could last three to four more years.
Petersen, noting that the work began in earnest in 2005, estimated it might be finished in 2016.
All of the contaminated soil and sediment downstream from the plant has been removed, and clean soil has been put downs.
Some areas still must be restored, which means eliminating diversion ditches used in the project and putting in appropriate plants and natural features.
Peterson says there is still a problem in one spring near Bailey Scales Road. That water has shown traces of PCB pollution, so it is being collected and routed through a treatment plant.
Also, a small area west of the plant has been found to be polluted, and it must be cleaned up.
