(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police Detectives are investigating an attempted murder, after a homeless man was stabbed at about 1:39 a.m. Sunday on the sidewalk in front of Tracks at 415 East Kirkwood Ave.
Following the stabbing, BPD Sgt. Dana Cole says the victim, who is in his mid-20s, was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and had surgery to remove a kidney.
Cole says the victim was pushing a shopping cart on the sidewalk, when he was approached by two men, who he told police was trying to take items from his cart.
When the altercation became physical, one of the suspects stabbed the victim once in the right side of his back.
After being stabbed, the victim crossed the street and walked to Kilroy's Bar N' Grill where he asked the staff to call police.
When police arrived, Cole says officers found blood spots on the sidewalk, but did not recover the weapon used in the stabbing.
Although Cole says police have several leads, no suspects have been arrested. Cole says the suspects were described as two black males.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Bloomington Police Department.
