(MITCHELL) - Heidi and Darrell Myers of Mitchell are the new owners of Kids Corner Preschool, 625 W. Main Street.
To celebrate, the couple is planning an open house and registration event from 2-4 p.m. July 15. During the event, there will be door prizes, contests and incentives offered to those who pre-register and who refer friends. It also gives parents and guardians a chance to meet the teaching staff, new owners and learn more about what Kids Corner will offer students.
"Kindergarten is such a giant step that I truly believe kids need to attend preschool," said Heidi Myers. "I would recommend to any parent that they send their child to preschool, any preschool, at least for a year. And it's never too early to start looking. Even if it's a year or two off, attend open houses and see what the different preschools have to offer your child. Learning is what you make it. It should be fun, but at the same time, you should see results."
The preschool has operated in Mitchell for the past 25 years. Formerly owned by Dawn and Eric Berger, Heidi Myers said the preschool will retain its curriculum and offer a staff of teachers who all have college degrees.
The preschool will offer a class for 3- and 4-year-olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9-11 a.m., and pre-kindergarten classes on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, from 8:30-11 a.m. or from noon to 2:30 p.m.
"We are going to keep the same curriculum because it works," Heidi Myers said. "It was set up and established by licensed teachers. We really want to try to focus on getting children ready for school by introducing sight words and reading, as well as computer technology and comprehension because that's what schools are doing right now.
"All three of my own children went here, and I truly think it has a good, established program of success. We've always thought Kids Corner had a good program, and we wanted to see it continue to provide this educational service to Mitchell."
In addition, Heidi Myers, who is a nurse, will offer first aid and CPR courses to the public for day care providers and others who wish to be re-certified or certified in the medical training as a part of licensing requirements. She also plans to offer evening music classes for children to introduce them to the basics of music to include singing, dancing and instrument work.
