(MITCHELL) - The Nostalgia Band will be performing at the Opera House in Mitchell, on Saturday, July 21st at 9pm.
This truly big band is lead by band director Frank Battaglia.
The band plays "an assortment of big band, jazz, rock and Latin music," according to Battaglia. The band features music from the 30's and 40's, hence the name Nostalgia. It also plays more modern sounds in the light jazz style.
The repertoire includes music from Hoagy Carmichael, Dominic Spera, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, George Gershwin, Sammy Nestico, and Neal Hefti.
Some of the big bands represented include Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller, Stan Kenton, Jimmy Dorsey, and Artie Shaw.
The Nostalgia Band was organized in early 1994 in Bedford, Indiana. The purpose of the band was not to make money (although the members are not opposed to the concept of compensation) but rather to create a group playing the sound of the big band era.
The band is an avocation of its members and has become a work of love of music.
The Nostalgia Band, with approximately 20 members, will fill the Opera House with an awesome musical performance.
Get your tickets early for this popular big band sound.
The Opera House is located at the corner of 7th & Brook Streets in Mitchell, Indiana.
Tickets are only $8.00 for Adults and $3.00 for ages 18 & under.
