(ORLEANS) - One person was injured after a two vehicle crash on Ind. 37 in Orleans Sunday.
According to Orleans Police Chief Roy McFarland, 19-year-old Jacob Michael Steber, of Bedford was driving a 1996 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck and traveling south on Ind. 37 when he collided with a 2003 Mercury driven by James Edward Nelson, of Paoli, who was traveling north on Ind. 37.
According to Steber and his 16-year-old female passenger, Nelson was driving in the middle of Ind. 37 and Steber went left of the center line to avoid hitting Nelson's Mercury head-on. Steber then swerved back over to the south bound lane of Ind. 37 and Nelson swerved back over into the north bound lane causing the vehicles to collide.
According to Nelson and his passenger Patsy Nelson and witness Matt and Kelsey Harkness who were directly behind Steber traveling south, Steber had crossed over into north bound lane traveling south and Nelson went left of center traveling north in
the south bound lane to avoid a head on collision. Nelson and Matt and Kelsey Harkness stated Steber then swerved back over into the south bound lane and Nelson swerved back over into the north bound lane when the vehicles collided.
Patsy Nelson was transported by IU Health Paoli Ambulance Service to IU Health Paoli for medical observation.
Alcohol and illegal narcotics do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Assisting at the scene were the Orleans Fire Department, Rural District 2 Fire Department and IU Health Paoli Ambulance personnel.
