(PAOLI) - Paoli Furniture in Orleans was presented three safety awards during the Louisville Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers' annual awards program June 22 at the Louisville Slugger Museum in Louisville.
The first award was the 2012 Workplace Safety Innovator of the Year which was accepted by Paoli's Director of Safety Jerry Roach on behalf of all of the employees.
The second award was the 2012 Best Safety Practices by an Individual. Deanna Babcock, the health and safety administrator, received this for her work with the Paoli Safety Committee.
She said, "I was very surprised. The safety program at Paoli is all about our members and that is the focus of the safety committee as well. From what I have personally witnessed and been told, our safety committee program is very different from the approach many companies take but I feel that it is effective and the safety data reflects this. Our goal is to improve the safety program each and every day because this improves the lives of our members."
The third award was the 2012 Best Safety Practices by a Company, which was presented to the Paoli Safe Workplace Auditing Team, or the SWAT Team as they are known at the facility. The team is made up of members from several departments, job classifications and levels of experience within the company and they conduct in-depth safety inspections which cover the entire facility. The members of the SWAT Team are Penny Godsey, Tomica Emberton, Danny Dersch, Billie Evans, Samia Laouini, Diane Shipman, Debbie Currier-Mata, Jody Faulconer, John Heyder, Darren Tye, Randall Underwood, John Middleton, D.K. Padgett, Jeff Harris, Deanna Babcock and Jerry Roach. Together these members are split into "entry teams" with assigned areas of the facility to inspect. The motto for the team is: Safety issues may run but they will not hide.
Founded in 1911, the American Society of Safety Engineers is the world's oldest safety society and is committed to protecting people, property and the environment.
Paoli, founded in 1926, is the manufacturer of fine wood office furniture. In 2010, Paoli became a member of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Voluntary Protection Program, which recognizes employers and workers who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below the national average for their respective industries. In 2011, the Indiana Senate passed a resolution which commended the members of the company for their dedication to safety.
