(BEDFORD) - Parts of Bedford are under a boil order, after the city had a leak in a 12 inch main near IU Health Hospital.
However, the boil order affects only part of the west side Bedford.
The precautionary boil order is in effect for all customers on the south side of 16th Street from Pizza Hut to Bex Addition, including Edgewood Addition.
On the north side of 16th Street the boil order is from Pizza Hut to the First Church of God.
This precautionary boil order will remain in force until further notice.
According to Bedford utilities, if water is intended for consumption, customers should bring water to a boil, let it boil vigorously for two minutes and let water cool before using.
Customers also may use bottled water.
Pre-boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, brushing teeth, washing vegetables, washing dishes, making infant formula, all food preparation and consumption, and making ice.
For more information, contact Bedford Utilities office during business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at 275-1626. After hours, customers can call the water filtration plant at 275-7173.
If you have lost all water pressure, Bedford Utilities advises to make sure all faucets are off and if you have an outside hydrant, turn it on and when water is restored, let run until clear and air is released from the pipes.
