(PAYNETOWN) - An ice cream social and live music will cap off a July 13 dedication celebrating the reconstruction of the flood-damaged activity center at Paynetown State Recreation Area.
The event starts at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by local group Carpenter and Clerk.
The interior of the activity center was destroyed by a record flood at Monroe Lake in May 2011.
Lowe's Home Improvement of Bloomington provided volunteers and partial funding for the reconstruction through its Lowe's Heroes program.
"We're excited to reach the end of the main construction phase," said Jill Vance, Monroe Lake's interpretive naturalist. "While there is still some exhibit work left to do, we want to recognize and celebrate all the work that has already been accomplished."
Visitors can see the work completed at the activity center so far, and get a preview of what is still to come.
Paynetown SRA. is at 4850 S. State Road 446 in Bloomington. The activity center is next to the swimming beach. For more information, contact Jill Vance at (812) 837-9967 or jvance@dnr.IN.gov. The entrance fee for Paynetown S.R.A. is $5 per in-state vehicle or $7 per out-of-state vehicle.
