(MITCHELL) - Spring Mill State Park will celebrate Pioneer Heritage Days this Saturday and Sunday, August 4th and 5th. This event explores what everyday life was like on Indiana’s frontier.
Saturday will feature heritage music by Donna and Wes Griffin, from noon to 2 p.m. Donna plays mountain dulcimer, hammered dulcimer and concertina. Wes plays mountain dulcimer and guitar. The Griffins represented traditional music in a concert series that accompanied the Smithsonian's New Harmonies roots music traveling exhibit in Kentucky. They have been playing music for 25 years in Kentucky and southern Indiana.
Sunday will feature the park's inaugural quilt show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pioneer Village. Quilters who have a hand project they would like to work on in the Pioneer Village, or who have a traditional quilt they would like to display, should contact Coletta Prewitt at (812) 849-3534 or springmillstatepark@dnr.in.gov. The park will also demonstrate traditional crafts on Sunday.
The event is free, but the standard entrance fee of $5 per in-state vehicle and $7 per out-of-state vehicle applies.
For more information, contact Coletta Prewitt at (812) 849-3534 or springmillstatepark@dnr.IN.gov.
