(UNDATED) - Thunderstorms across the area on Sunday brought welcome relief from drought conditions and some unwelcome damage.
Power outages were reported across Lawrence County. When winds broke off tree limbs and downed trees and power lines. Trees were reported down on Avoca-Eureka, Indiana Creek Camp roads, Rueter and Boyd lanes, and near the Blackwell Truck and Tractor Pulls in Heltonville.
Bedford Firefighters were busy running from one location to another as down power lines arches.
There were power lines down at 915 L Street. Bedford Fire Department Chief Jon Wagner says the electric was arching at the meter box.
"We were lucky on this one," he added. "The wires shorted out at the meter box and caused a fire. The men used thermo imaging and found no fires in the walls of the home. Duke was on the scene within 16 minutes."
Firefighters then went to the 1400 block of 22nd Street and found 2 power lines down and another arching.
"The lines had been down a while before someone notified police," Wagner says. "They were down long enough to burn a hole in the city's water line. City employees were notified and Duke was on the scene in 13 minutes."
A transformer was arching in the alley between R and S streets off 7th Street.
Winds took out a very large limb in front of Connie Phillips and her daughter Tabitha Lowther's house on S. Lafayette St. in Worthington.
The limb came down on not just one but three vehicles belonging to family members who were there for a Sunday visit. Only one vehicle was visible from the road, the other two completely covered with limbs and leaves.
All three appeared to have windshields shattered and substantial body damage. Phillips was concerned about how to go about cleaning up the mess but thankful her children and small grandchildren had already exited their cars when the storm hit.
