(OWENSBURG) - Two Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were shot Wednesday morning while responding to a call near Owensburg.
Greene County Sheriff Terry Pierce says Deputies James O'Malley and Brad Deckard both sustained gunshot wounds - believed to have been fired from a shotgun.
Indiana State Police Detectives are investigating the shooting that happened at 10 a.m.
Sheriff Pierce says details of what happened are sketchy.
He did say both officers were shot in the shoulder area and Deputy O'Mallery suffered some shotgun pellets in his leg. Pierce says O'Malley was taken into surgery around 12:30 p.m. Pierce added both officers were wearing bullet proof vest when the shooting happened.
The person who shot the officer is no longer a threat, but the sheriff had no other information on if the shooter was injured during the gunfire exchange.
