(BEDFORD ) - Lauren Werner will finish out her 10th year in 4-H the way she had always dreamed, as the 2012 Lawrence County Fair Queen.
Carol Johnson, of the Times-Mail reports, Werner, a 2012 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence, was crowned Friday night at the Lawrence County Expo Hall in front of a large crowd.
"I have dreamed of this ever since I can remember," she said minutes after receiving the crown. "I always looked up to the fair queen and can remember being so excited when the queen would give me my ribbons, no matter what color they were."
Werner is a member of 4-H Horse and Pony and will spend today through Monday showing her horse, before beginning her duties as fair queen. She is the daughter of James and Tobey Werner and plans to study nursing at Vincennes University.
It was Werner's first time to participate in the queen contest.
"I had a fantastic time," she said. "I made so many new friends and memories. The girls were all so nice, it would have been good for any of us to win."
Joining Werner on stage were pageant finalists. Grace Armstrong of Mitchell was chosen first runner-up, Hannah Meadows, Bedford, was named second runner-up and Miss Congeniality. The People's Choice award, determined by a dollar a vote, went to Olivia Shirley of Bedford.
Judges selected from nine young women, who were evaluated based on an interview with judges, personality and poise (50 percent) and how they modeled professional wear, an evening gown and their response to an on-stage question.
Serving as fair queen involves long hours at the fair, from early in the morning until late at night.
Asked about the upcoming week, Werner said, "I'm looking forward to everything. I love the fair. It's my favorite time of the year."

Brianna Young was named Little Miss Queen. Little Miss princesses are Anna Roberts and Shelby Pruett. Little Miss People's Choice went to Alexandria Parsley.
