(BEDFORD) - After nearly a year on a waiting list, Ally Pemberton, Bedford, received a heart Saturday at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
Ally, who will be a fifth-grader at Stalker Elementary School, is doing well, according to a family friend.
She remains in intensive care at Riley while doctors monitor her recovery and her new heart.
Ally was placed on the transplant list Aug. 16, 2011. Ally was born with a heart defect called "double inlet left ventricle," but it wasn't detected until she was almost 3. The defect caused her to tire easily and restricted her activities.
In February, Ally moved to third on the transplant list and her family was optimistic she would receive a heart soon. Ally's parents are Paul and Andrea (Kopp) Pemberton of Bedford.
