(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell Police Department arrested Christopher R. Leatherman on a warrant for parole violation and a warrant for the robbery of Lost River Liquors Friday afternoon.
Hardman says after an investigation police determined Leatherman was a suspect in Wednesday afternoon's robbery at Lost River Liquor. Police contacted Leatherman's parole officer and obtained a warrant for parole violation.
A second warrant for robbery was obtained this morning after Hardman met with Lawrence County Prosecutor Michelle Woodward.
"We received information that the suspect (Leatherman) was at a residence on Dale Street and surveillance was setup on the residence," Hardman wrote in an email. "The Lawrence County Sheriffs Department Emergency Response Team was contacted due to the nature of the crime."
But before the response team could get there, Leatherman left in a vehicle.
"A traffic stop was made by officer of the Mitchell Police Department and Mr. Leatherman was apprehended without incident," Hardman says.
The robbery was reported at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday at Lost River Liquors, 125 S. Sixth St. An employee told police he had been robbed by a white man with blonde hair who was described as being tall, about 35 to 40 years old and who was wearing a white T-shirt and khaki shorts.
The employee told police the man was carrying a .45 caliber long-barrel revolver that he concealed using a Dollar General plastic bag.
"He showed the gun to the cashier and then got away with an undisclosed amount of cash," Hardman said.
