(MITCHELL) - With the Persimmon Festival just a little more than a month away community volunteers are staging a clean and proud event aimed at making Mitchell look better in time for the festival.
The city is teaming up with Capstone Ministries, the United Way of South Central Indiana and ReGeneration to offer the event, which will be from noon to 6 p.m. on Sept. 14 and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 15.
During these times, residents can drop off unwanted items at the Warren Street entrance of the city's street department garage.
Suggested items to be dropped off include used oil, broken furniture, bath fixtures, rags, tires, batteries, out-of-date medication, broken toys and bicycles, old carpet, aluminum cans, newspapers, electronics, appliances, mattresses, motors and household hazardous waste.
Also, ReGeneration will be on-site to accept gently used clothing and household items for those wishing to give those donations to the resale store.
Those who call 849-0470 before Sept. 14 can schedule an appointment for a wrecker to come and remove old vehicles or farm equipment from their property within the city limits.
Residents who do this will be paid scrap value for the metal, minus a small haul-off fee.
