(LINTON) - Consider it the last swim of summer: The city’s decided to open A.M. Risher Pool during the evening of Aug. 7, during National Night Out.
Mark Stalcup, of the Greene County Daily World reports, "National Night Out we will hold one last swim from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. with a $2 admission," said City Councilman Jathan Wright. "Swim and watch the fireworks!"
The final day for open swimming at the pool will be Aug. 5, though evening exercise classes and some pool parties will continue. Thus, the Aug. 7 evening swim marks the close of the open swimming season.
The evening pool party could, if the city's rescheduled fireworks go off as planned amid a dry season, substitute for the party the Pool Board originally slated for July 4.
Should the city's burn ban not prohibit the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce from shooting off the fireworks originally delayed due to dry grass and drought, swimmers can watch the display from the water.
Some changes, however, will occur from the planned Independence Day party. The disc jockey won't appear, nor will the concession stand serve up as many refreshments as during the Freedom Festival.
