(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington Police Department is investigating the attack on a homeless man that happened Wednesday.
According to police the man was attacked in a wooded area near West Third Street and Cory Lane.
According to Bloomington Detective Sgt. John Kovach, the man was was leaning against a tree and had shut his eyes when he heard a twig snap. That sound was the last thing the man remembers until he later woke up on the ground, with his blood all around him.
Kovach says the man walked along West Third Street to a homeless camp, there he received assistance. According to a doctor's report, the man suffered a 10-centimeter slash wound across the right side of his neck.
After being transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and treated for his injuries, the man explained that the attack might have taken place between 4:30 and 5 p.m., Kovach said.
His claim indicates there was a two-hour gap between coming across the individuals from the other homeless camp and being taken to the hospital.
Police did not find the weapon used during the attack.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
