(NASHVILLE) - A man died in a two-vehicle crash on State Road 46 East just outside of Nashville Wednesday morning.
At about 6:45 a.m., emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded to a personal-injury accident at the intersection of State Road 46 East and Old State Road 46, across from the entrance to Brown County State Park.
A sheriff's department news release reports that a 1992 Buick driven by 49-year-old Phillip L. Hardin Jr. of Morgantown was eastbound on State Road 46 when he crossed the center line and entered the westbound traffic lane, where he struck a 2006 Ford pickup truck that was just beginning to turn from Old State Road 46 onto the highway westbound.
The truck was driven by 69-year-old George W. Wetzel of Brown County.
Hardin was trapped inside of his vehicle and had to be extricated by members of the Nashville Fire Department before an ambulance transported him to the Brown County Law Enforcement Center, where a helicopter was standing by.
The release stated that Hardin succumbed to his injuries prior to the helicopter lifting off.
Wetzel sustained head and arm injuries, which were treated at the scene. He was released to seek medical attention on his own.
Along with officers from the Brown County Sheriff's Office and the Nashville Police Department, medics from Columbus Regional Hospital EMS and firefighters from the Nashville Fire Department, Sgt. Nicholas Shaw of the Installation Corp Unit at Camp Atterbury also assisted at the scene.
