(MITCHELL) - 36-year-old Matthew Gater, of Mitchell, was arrested after a resident at Hancock Avenue and Marion Street caught him trying to break-in to their vehicle.
Mitchell police were called about the alleged crime at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday night.
The homeowner called police a second time, when Gater was attempting to stagger onto the porch.
When police arrived at the home, Gater, who residents say was not wearing a shirt, had left the home.
Police found Gater and stopped him as he was walking in the alley behind the 500 block of North 8th Street, near Bishop Boulevard.
He was arrested on charges criminal trespass, unlawful entry to a motor vehicle and public intoxication and taken to the Lawrence County Jail. A K-9 unit searched the alley for possible evidence and drugs during the arrest, but none were found.
