(BLOOMINGTON) - NAMI-GBA is currently accepting registration for Family-to-Family, the signature educational program of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) intended for family caregivers of individuals with severe mental illnesses.
The classes will be held for 12 Tuesdays, August 21st - November 13th at the Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 2120 North Fee Lane in Bloomington from 7-9:30 p.m.
"Family members can become confused and overwhelmed when a loved one is mentally ill," said Jill Bolte Taylor, President of the local affiliate.
"This program helps families to better understand what is going on with their loved one's brain, what they can do to support their family member, how to navigate local resources, as well as what they can do to take care of themselves," said Taylor.
The course balances basic psycho-education and skill training with emotional support, self-care and empowerment.
Three trained family members, Laura Jesseph, Janet James, and Cathy Korinek will teach the class. The course and all materials are offered free of charge; however class size is limited to 18 participants and pre-registration is required no later than Wednesday, August 15th.
For more information or to pre-register for the class, please contact Janet James (812.345.3294, jjames@indiana.edu) or Laura Jesseph (812.333.0341,ljesseph@aol.com) by phone or email.
