(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police say the wife of former U.S. Rep. Lee Hamilton has died after being run over by her own car.
Police said 82-year-old Nancy Hamilton had arrived with a pet for a veterinary visit Saturday afternoon but her car was not set in the parking gear and it rolled over her as she walked behind the vehicle.
Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer tells The Herald-Times that Nancy Hamilton suffered head and chest injuries.
Police Capt. Joe Qualters confirmed her death in an email message to The Associated Press.
Lee Hamilton represented southern Indiana in Congress for more than 30 years and was vice chairman on the 9/11 commission. He joined Indiana University in 1999 to create its Center on Congress. He remains the center's director.
