According to a Brown County Sheriff's Department press release, when Deputy Greg Pittman arrived on scene at 9:44 p.m., he tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher, but wasn't successful.
Sgt. Mike Moore also assisted, but also didn't have any luck putting out the fire. The Hamblen Township Fire Department arrived and extinguished the blaze. Deputies then found Barner on the edge of the road injured.
Deputy Pittman noticed Barnes was intoxicated. Barner was treated for cuts on his head and arms at the scene and then taken to Columbus Regional Hospital.
A blood test at the hospital showed Barnes was intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with Operating a vehicle while intoxicated and to jail after being treated at the hospital.
