(JUDAH) - 85-year-old Richard Pritchett, a longtime Bedford business, man passed away at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital from injuries he suffered when he became pinned under a lawn mower Thursday afternoon.
Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chad Hayes says rescue crews went to Jon Pritchett's home at 315 Mayberry Court after a 911 call was placed by a family member, who was swimming in a pool at the time of the accident.
Jon Pritchett is Richard's son.
Hayes says, when emergency crews arrived they found Richard pinned under a large John Deere riding mower. He was alert and talking to emergency crews.
Hayes says, Pritchell was mowing close to a retaining wall that is above Jon's driveway, when he got too close to the wall and the mower tumbled over the wall, falling about four or five feet and pinning Richard underneath.
A helicopter was put on standby to transport Richard to the hospital, however IU Health Bedford ambulance crews decided to take Richard to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Richard, along with his brother Charlie were the founder of Pritchett Bros. Construction, a remodeling and renovation business. The company has been in business since 1960.
The company is best known for the renovations at the West Baden Springs Hotel and French Lick Resort and the Showers Complex and the Fountain Square Mall in Bloomington among others.
