(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig told commissioners Tuesday morning that he is impressed with the citizens of Lawrence County.
Craig says that since the burn ban was lifted on August 17th more than 140 people have called the department reporting they were going burn brush.
"That goes to show you citizens are concerned and aware of the dry conditions and are taking extra precautions to be safe," Craig says. "Firefighters and I meet on Saturday and considered putting the ban back in place, because it is still really dry. But then it rained."
Firefighters and Craig will continue to monitor the drought conditions, but for now the burn ban is lifted. Craig encourages citizen to continue to call the department if they are planning on burning debris.
