(BEDFORD) - A Lawrence County jury will continue to hear testimony today in the state’s case against Joshua Patton, of Oolitic, who is accused of raping a woman he didn’t know in February of 2010.
Lawrence County Prosecutor Michelle Woodward, during opening statements, say Patton admitted during a police interview that he was told, more than once, by the woman that she didn't want to have sex with him, he, however, forced himself on her.
Public Defender Lorinda Youngcourt told the 12 jurors and two alternates in Lawrence Superior Court I that the sex was consensual, and there is no physical evidence proving otherwise.
According to police reports, Patton went to the woman's home in Avoca to inquire about buying a tool box for his pickup truck. the two agreed on a price and went into the woman's home to exchange phone numbers. that is when the woman alleges patton raped her.
