(LAWRENCE COUNTY) - Rural and volunteer fire departments from 39 counties across the Indiana have been awarded more than $242,000 in Volunteer Fire Assistance grants.
Huron Volunteer Fire Department received $2,480 to purchase radios and Marion Township VFD received $5,000 for safety.
The grants are administrated by the Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry's Fire Control Headquarters and are made available through the USDA Forest Service.
The grants may be used for training, installation of dry hydrants, or to purchase necessary firefighting equipment and personal protective gear.
The grants range from $265 to $5,000 and were given to 61 fire departments.
