(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Police Department say a man who shot himself in the ankle did it on accident.
Mitchell Police Department was contacted be IU Health Bedford Hospital reporting they were treating a man with a gunshot wound on his ankle on Tuesday.
Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says the shooting happened inside a vehicle that was parked just outside of Mitchell.
"The case is still under investigation, but we have determined the shooting was an accident," Craig says. "There was a witness to the shooting and we have determined the weapon accidentally discharged. No one else in the vehicle was injured."
