(MITCHELL) - The second Hillbilly 500 attracted 33 drivers and more than 800 spectators who watched them race homemade, gravity-powered vehicles down Teke Burton Drive Saturday.
There was no admission fee, but organizer Dan Kample said spectators donated more than 600 items of food to Lawrence InterFaith Endeavor food pantry.
Some of the racers didn't go home empty-handed, either, Kemple reported.
The winners were:
Ages 5-8: John McLain.
Ages 9-13: Devin Fox.
Ages 14-17: A.J. Abplanalp.
Ages 18 and older: Tony Terrell.
Mayor's choice: Andrew Kern.
Radio's choice: McLain.
Most outrageous: Devin Fox.
