(BEDFORD) - A new school crosswalk will be placed on Star Boulevard.
The Lawrence County commissioners approved the placement of the crosswalk Tuesday morning.
Commissioner Dave Flinn says the will allow students and fans to cross the road to attend soccer and cross country events safely.
The speed limit will be lowered from 35 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour when students are present.
Flinn says he meet with school and police officials to address the situation and they determined the safest thing to do would be to build an up above cross walk.
"But that would be expensive and maybe a project in the future," Flinn says. "It just made sense to make an area on Star Boulevard a school zone with a crosswalk. We have not had any problems or past issues, but we are trying to be proactive and have vehicles going through the area slow down and keep anyone from getting hurt."
