(BEDFORD) - Nature lovers take note, the annual Family Forest Fun Day at Murray Forest Park is slated for Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Bedford Recreation Director Gary Dorsett announced the upcoming event, co-sponsored by Sycamore Land Trust and White River RC&D, during Tuesday night's parks board meeting at Thornton Park.
Activities, designed for the entire family, include a visit by the Hardy Lake raptors.
Volunteers will staff several educational sites and youngsters can participate in a scavenger hunt and nature crafts, practice animal calls, make bird feeders, hike or embark on a bug hunt.
"The kids love this," Dorsett said.
Dorsett also noted the annual Fall Break Fun Day is scheduled for Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Edgewood Park.
"Bedford Federal Savings Bank is our sponsor this year," he said. "This is another popular event, and it's free to all children."
Activities include basketball, a corn toss, carnival games, inflatables and DJ services provided by Josh Russell.
Hot dogs, drinks and snacks will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Dorsett also announced several other programs the city is offering:
* Adult Swim - The BNL pool will be open from 8-9 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The cost is $20 per person.
* Dog Obedience - Mike Johnson, K-9 instructor with the Bedford Police Department, teaches the course at Wilson Circle Shelter House.
The four-week class meets on Wednesday and Thursday nights from 5-6 p.m. Dogs must be at least 5 months old. The fee is $65, and the first session begins Oct. 3.
* Zumba Training - Susan Blythe and Deborah Craton lead the Latin-inspired fitness class for all ages. Classes meet on Thursdays at Wilson Park at 5:30 p.m. The fee is $5 per session.
* Yoga Classes -Trudy Brown offers gentle, beginning and continuing yoga courses and meditation at the Red Brick. For details, call Brown at 279-2690.
